Blue Mountain, Ontario's largest ski resort, is slated to open for the season Dec. 5 and is offering a $39 daily lift ticket through Dec. 15.  Regular season daily lift rates will be $58, and a day/night combo ticket, good 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., will be $68 this season.

Blue Mountain, located along the southern shore of Lake Huron's Georgian Bay, stretches for a couple miles along the Niagara Escarpment offering panoramic views of the bay and historic community of Collingwood.  Its 720-foot vertical drop (220 meters for our Canadian friends) is the largest in the eastern Great Lakes.

Blue has been towing skiers up the escarpment since 1941, almost as long as any other ski area in the Heartland.  It has grown considerably since Czechoslovakian immigrant Jozo Weilder cut a couple of trails and rigged a lift made of cables, a pair of sleds, and a truck engine.

Today it has an Intrawest village, 36 trails ranging from beginner to double black diamond, two terrain parks, a super pipe, and 14 lifts, including four high-speed express chairs.  It's arguably one of the best snow sports resorts in the Great Lakes Region and attracts skiers and snowboarders from Ontario, Michigan, Ohio, and Eastern New York.

an inside tip. Badlands Terrain. Whether it's snowboarding, free skiing or just hanging

out with friends, Badlands Terrain Park is your home base!

Badlands Terrain Park boasts not one but TWO SUPER-PIPES and is serviced by its

own chairlift which operates 7 days a week. We are also home to some of the east

coasts BEST rails. New additions to the park include the monster rails from

Coors Light Triple Challenge Pro Rail Jam - a giant white high bar, a huge

35 foot flat box and a massive swing set that has been dubbed EXPO.

These are just 3 of the many rails that you can find in Badlands. In previous years,

Blue's selection of HUGE boosters brought some of Whistler's best park riders

out to check out what the hype was all about. A 70 foot Big Air jump was the biggest

hit Blue Mountain had ever seen and helped make the Big Air competition of the

Coors Light Triple Challenge an unbelievable success!

Named by SKIER (Snowboard Canada's free ski publication) as a

"Beast of the East”. Badlands was also named 8th Best Terrain Park in

Eastern North America by Free Skier Magazine.

Blue Mountain ski patrol

Being Ontario’s largest ski Resort, Blue Mountain does have a full time ski patrol

. Blue Mountain ski patrol is the largest patrol in Ontario and is made up of 200

people who come together to provide first aid and rescue services for the ski resort.

They are volunteers and paid patrollers working throughout the season from the opening run to the last in the evening to ensure the safety of our guests.

Every patroller is trained in first aid and CPR and undergoes on-hill training in areas

such as lift evacuation, toboggan training and accident site management.

In addition to the training that all patrollers must take, some have more

advanced training ranging from oxygen therapy to more advanced life saving techniques.

Not a Skier? That’s no problem

There is a lot to do in the Georgian Triangle! The accommodation in
